Maluti is located at 24° 9' north latitude and 87° 40' east longitude. The village lies near Shikaripara of Dumka - Rampurhat Bus route. The distance from Rampurhat railway station, in Birbhum in West Bengal to Maluti is 16 km and the distance between district headquarters Dumka and Maluti is 55 km.

The name of the village probably comes from Mallahati — Malla Kings of Bankura, Vishhnupur had suzerainty over this area. The area ruled by Malla kings of Bankura was Damin-i-koh i.e., present Pakur subdivision in the north. Burdwan in the east, Midnapore in south and some portion of Chhotonagpur plateau in west. This vast land was called Mallabhum. The village might have been named in those days by prefixing 'Malla' in relevance with royal dynasty.

Shikaripara block is predominantly inhabited by Adivasis (santhals). This village too, is surrounded by Adivasi villages from both Jharkhand and West Bengal. Oval shaped with diameter of 700 meters on the wider side and 400 meters on the narrower side, the population of the village is little more than 3,000, yet half of the population lives elsewhere in the country and abroad. Most of them come back during the Kalipuja (Dipawali) time. The dwellers of the village include Adivasis, Harijans, backward and upper castes people. The common language of the village is Bengali.

Maluti is situated at the fag-end of undulated Chhotonagpur plateau with attractive natural sceneries of forests, hillocks and rivulets. The climate of this place is healthy like other health resorts of Jharkhand. The people of this village are very simple, peaceful and quiet, the mainstay is cultivation.
